Royals Handle Eagles at Home

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (1-2) secured its first win of the season this afternoon defeating Winthrop University (0-3) at home by a score of 22-5.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a goal scored by the Eagles early in the game, Queens reeled off seven straight goals to take a 7-1 lead into the second period. Then they outscored Winthrop 4-1 in the second, building the gap to nine, 11-2, at the half.
 
A goal from Kayleen Favreau at 10:40 in the third gave the Royals a 10-point advantage, triggering the running clock rule which was in effect until the final horn.
 
KEY STATS & NOTES 
  • Kayleen Favreau (two goals, three assists) and Elise Grissett (four goals, one assist) each recorded five points in the win, while Jordan Tandler added a hat trick and one assist. Michael Paterson tallied her first career hat trick.
  • Anna Bednarz scored the first two goals of her collegiate career. Jill Gironda and Karsyn Sadler each added two goals and an assist. Lily Greenwell also scored two goals.
  • Defensively, Mackenzie Saneman totaled three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
  • Devan Maready earned her first career win in goal after recording four saves.
  • Queens outshot Winthrop 36-19, putting 32 shots on goal.
  • The Royals won the battle for ground balls 21-10, but they were edged in draw controls 16-12.
