THE SHORT STORY
In their second game of the 2025 season, the Queens University of Charlotte Women's basketball team defeated Mars Hill 80-48. The Royals never trailed in the game, with turnovers being the deciding factor as they forced 25.

"All the time we emphasize that we want to make our defense create our offense, and that's something I'm going to hold them accountable to because defense isn't a skillset, it's an effort thing. So we want to make sure we're bringing total effort and concentration every single game. That's definitely one of our main focuses this year."

- Brenae Jones-Grant had a double double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 15 rebounds to go along with two blocks and four steals.
- Sharpshooter Ana Barreto had an impressive all-around performance, leading the team with 20 points, five assists, and four made three pointers.
- Alyssa Lewis reached double figures for the first time in her career, scoring 10 points.
- Queens shot 56% from the field during the third quarter.
- The Royals dominated the paint, outrebounding the Lions 37-28, with 13 of those coming on the offensive glass.
- Queens totaled 11 steals as a team.
NOTABLE MOMENTS
- The Royals began the game with a tenacious defensive effort, holding the Lions to five points in the first six minutes, while forcing 7 turnovers during that time.
- Leading 13-0 with 4:23 remaining in the first quarter, Queens allowed a 11 to eight run by Mars Hill to end the first period with a 19 to 11 lead.
- Queens offense was proficient at getting to the foul line in the first half, taking 22 free throws and making 14.
- The Royals struggled to shoot the ball from deep in the first half, making only three of 10 looks from beyond the arc.
- Turnovers proved to be the difference maker in the first half, as Mars Hill coughed up the ball 15 times, allowing Queens to stretch their lead out to 45-24 at the half.
- Queens offense started to get in rhythm during the third quarter, beginning the half on a 12-0 run leading into a media timeout.
- Despite being outscored 16-14 in the fourth quarter, the Royals third quarter momentum was enough to ultimately prevail.

- Alyssa Lewis set a new points record, scoring 10.
