LEXINGTON, Va.- The Queens University of Charlotte Royals delivered a powerful performance this weekend, defeating Wheeling University 45–28 in the National Collegiate Rugby Championship Quarterfinals to punch their ticket to the NCR Semifinals. In a matchup filled with intensity, momentum swings, and standout individual efforts, the Royals proved once again why they are among the nation's top collegiate rugby programs.
From the opening kickoff, Queens established their attacking identity, characterized by sharp ball movement, disciplined structure, and a relentless pace. The forwards laid the platform early with strong carries and clean set-piece execution, while the backs showcased their ability to strike from anywhere on the field. Wheeling responded with determination, staying within reach through much of the first half, but Queens' depth and fitness became the difference as the match wore on.
By halftime, the Royals held a narrow lead, but the second half saw Queens take full control of the game. Clinical execution inside zone four and dominant defensive pressure allowed the Royals to extend their margin. Key tries in the final 20 minutes sealed the win and energized the traveling supporters.
