Queens Outlasts Stetson in Five-Set Senior Day Victory

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On Senior Day inside Curry Arena, Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball battled past Stetson in a five-set thriller on Sunday afternoon, earning a 3–2 win by scores of 25–22, 19–25, 22–25, 25–19, 17–15. The victory moves the Royals to 16–9 overall and 7–5 in the ASUN, while the Hatters fall to 9–15 and 5–7 in league play.

Before first serve, Queens honored its graduating class — Mia McMillen, Ella Porter, Ellis Sargent, and team manager Maddie Derrenberger — celebrating their impact and dedication to the program.

Queens finished with 63 kills, 56 assists, 55 digs, and 13 blocks, outlasting a Stetson team that hit .190 with 57 kills and 18 blocks. The match featured dramatic shifts in momentum, including a decisive fifth set in which the Royals hit .323 and erased an early four-point deficit.

Senior Mia McMillen delivered on the moment with 15 kills, 13 digs, and four blocks, while Emma Norris added 14 kills on .333 hitting. Elizabeth Layson also posted 15 kills and two blocks. Anna Grace Sparks supplied eight kills, an ace, and six digs, and Camryn Teasley led all players with seven blocks.

Queens' two-setter system stayed strong, with Tyler Peluso distributing 22 assists and Megan Kelly adding 15 assists and an ace — including a crucial fifth-set serving run that helped spark the comeback. Tilley Collins steadied the back row with 15 digs, while Callie DeSchryver and Marlee Cook provided meaningful minutes off the bench. DeSchryver, returning from injury, delivered the defining moment of the match with the game-winning kill on the final rally.

Queens claimed the first set 25–22, but Stetson captured sets two and three behind strong hitting from Zuzanna Bury. The Royals responded in the fourth, limiting the Hatters to .031 to force a fifth frame.

Down 4–0 in the fifth, Queens stormed back behind timely blocks and clutch swings from McMillen and Norris. With the match tied late, Kelly set DeSchryver, who buried the final kill to lock in a 17–15 Senior Day victory.

"We handled pressure in some really uncomfortable moments," said Head Coach Matt Stolz. "Megan Kelly went back in the fifth set and ripped some huge serves, and we don't win without that. Our block stepped up late, and Callie DeSchryver — coming off an injury — gave us a huge lift and finished the match for us. It was a big program win with a lot of different people stepping up. I'm really excited we could cap off Senior Day for Mia, Porter, and Sarge with a win. Now our focus shifts to Jacksonville and North Florida as we look to keep climbing the conference standings."

The win puts Queens ahead in the all-time series against the Hatters, 4-3.
