JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Queens University of Charlotte senior defender
Sejla Podzic has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced today.
Podzic earned the distinction following her outstanding performance in Queens 3-0 victory over West Georgia. The team captain anchored a back line that limited the Wolves to just two shots on goal and provided an offensive spark by scoring the opening goal in the 36th minute off a set piece. Her effort helped secure the Royals third clean sheet of the season.
This season Podzic has started and played every minute of all 13 matches for the Royals, totaling over 1,100 minutes on the field.
"This is wonderful for Sejla to be recognized, she has continued to be the bedrock for this team as we progress in the season," said head coach Shannon Neely Noel. "Completing a full 90 minutes, hold the shutout in a pivotal conference match and contributing to our goal production speaks directly to her impact!"
Podzic becomes the fourth player in program history to earn ASUN weekly honors since Queens joined the league in 2022 and the second Royals defender to be named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week.
Queens will travel to Carrollton, Georgia, on Sunday, October 12, for a rematch with West Georgia. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. as the Royals look to complete a season sweep of the Wolves.
