Rhormens and DeSchryver Named Royals of the Month; Men’s Basketball and Men’s Lacrosse Earn Royal Service Award

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte has announced men's soccer standout Matheus Rhormens and women's volleyball leader Callie DeSchryver as the Royals of the Month for August and September. The two were selected through administrative voting recognizing the top student-athletes across all fall sports.

Matheus Rhormens, the starting goalkeeper for the men's soccer team, was a steady force between the posts, starting all nine matches for the Royals. The junior posted a 4-4-1 record while recording four clean sheets, ranking top 30 nationally and second in the ASUN in shutouts. Rhormens was named ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 22 after a standout stretch that included helping Queens earn a 1–0 victory at No. 14 Clemson, where he held the nationally ranked Tigers scoreless for the first time since 2023. He also tallied a career-high nine saves in the season opener at No. 14 N.C. State.

On the volleyball court, Callie DeSchryver proved to be a vital offensive weapon for the Royals through the early months of the season. The sophomore appeared and started in all 15 matches, leading Queens with 178 total kills entering October. She averaged 2.9 kills per set across 62 sets played, including four double-digit kill performances in September. DeSchryver's top outings included 17 kills against Campbell (Sept. 12) and 16 against Florida A&M (Sept. 6), while she also hit a season-best .556 in a dominant performance versus The Citadel.

In addition to the individual honors, men's basketball and men's lacrosse were recognized as co-winners of the Royal Service Award for their exceptional commitment to community engagement and volunteer service. Men's basketball achieved 100% team participation with 179 validated service hours, generating an economic impact of $6,227.41 through 32 service commitments and earning a Team Impact Score of 84 on Helper Helper.

Meanwhile, men's lacrosse made a significant community impact with 93% team participation (54 of 58 athletes) and a 69% impact score, contributing 371 total service hours to the American Heart Association through the Charlotte Heart Walk.
