RICHMOND, KY. — The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought match on the road Friday evening, falling to Eastern Kentucky, 3–0 (25–21, 25–23, 25–16), inside Baptist Health Arena. The Royals (11–7 overall, 2–3 ASUN) pushed the Colonels in each of the first two sets before EKU's offense took control late to complete the sweep.
Queens started fast in the opening frame, using early kills from Elizabeth Layson and Mia McMillen to take a 10–6 lead. The Colonels responded with a late push, closing the set on a 6–2 run to take it 25–21.
The Royals found their rhythm again in the second, hitting .297 with 15 kills behind balanced setting from Megan Kelly and Tyler Peluso, but Eastern Kentucky held on down the stretch for a narrow 25–23 win.
In the third, EKU's offense hit .308 to pull away, while Queens continued to battle behind defensive efforts from Tilley Collins and Callie DeSchryver, who combined for 15 digs.
Layson led Queens with eight kills and three blocks, while McMillen and Emma Norris each tallied six kills. Teasley added four kills and five total blocks, and DeSchryver contributed five kills, five digs, and an ace. Peluso and Kelly combined for 23 assists, and Collins paced the back row with 10 digs.
As a team, Queens finished with 36 kills, seven blocks, and four aces while hitting .155. Eastern Kentucky countered with 45 kills and a .294 clip.
