LOUISVILLE, KY. — The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team closed out its Kentucky road trip with a dominant 3–0 (25–23, 25–19, 25–22) sweep of Bellarmine on Saturday evening inside Knights Hall. The Royals (12–7 overall, 3–3 ASUN) bounced back from Friday's match at Eastern Kentucky with one of their most efficient performances of the season, winning their first-ever match against Bellarmine in program history on the Knights' home court.
"We played really well," Head Coach Matt Stolz said. "We were really excited to get back out on the court and compete after last night. We were able to use some different people and positions throughout the match, which was exciting to see. Our players have been working hard in practice and earned that opportunity, so it was great to watch them step up and perform. I'm really pleased with how we executed the game plan and stayed intentional about attacking and serving tough. That's a big win for our team, getting to 3–3 after the third weekend of conference play. Our focus now shifts to two really good teams in Central Arkansas and North Alabama, and I'm excited to see our continued growth as we prepare for those challenges."
Queens started strong in a tight opening frame, hitting .286 with 14 kills. Callie DeSchryver and Emma Norris provided early offense, while Megan Kelly guided the attack with steady distribution. After Bellarmine cut it close at 21–20, the Royals closed on a run capped by an Ellis Sargent kill to take the set 25–23.
The second set featured the Royals' best rhythm of the night. Queens controlled the tempo behind Elizabeth Layson and Mia McMillen, who each delivered key swings during a mid-set surge that stretched the lead to 18–13. The Royals' blocking presence — led by Norris and Camryn Teasley — helped hold the Knights to just .138 hitting, as a DeSchryver kill sealed the 25–19 victory.
Queens continued its strong play in the third, maintaining a side-out percentage above 70 percent while hitting .297 as a team. Cook and Kelly kept the offense balanced, feeding both pins and the middle. The Royals closed the night with a back-to-back kill from Norris and a huge block from Layson and Teasley to complete the sweep, 25–22.
DeSchryver led the offense with nine kills, 11 digs, and an ace, while Layson followed with eight kills and two blocks. McMillen added seven kills and nine digs, and Norris chipped in six kills and four blocks. Marlee Cook and Kelly combined for 29 assists and 16 digs, while Tilley Collins anchored the defense with nine digs.
As a team, Queens finished with 43 kills on a .284 hitting percentage, 50 digs, six blocks, and five service aces, while holding Bellarmine to just .212 hitting. The Royals have now won three of their last four matches.
