THE SHORT STORY:Â
The Queens University women's tennis team (0-3) endured a tough day at the Howard Levine Tennis Center, falling in back-to-back matches on Friday, January 31. The Royals suffered a 4-0 loss to Presbyterian and later fell 4-3 in a closely contested against Belmont Abbey.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Against Presbyterian, Queens faced early adversity with two forfeits at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, putting them in a quick deficit. The Blue Hose secured the doubles point after a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while the No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished. Presbyterian clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-6 victory by Madison Dennett over
Audrey Serb at No. 4 singles, with
Lucy Hogan (No. 1),
Zoe Cvitanovic (No. 2), and
Andreea Onitoiu (No. 3) competing in unfinished matches when play was halted.
- In the second match of the day against Belmont Abbey, the Royals fought hard but came up just short. Queens secured the doubles point with wins from Hogan/Onitoiu (6-3) at No. 1 and Cvitanovic/Serb (6-2) at No. 2.
In singles, Hogan earned a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 1, and Onitoiu delivered a thrilling comeback at No. 3, winning 0-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9). However, Belmont Abbey claimed victories at No. 2, No. 4, and capitalized on two Queens forfeits at No. 5 and No. 6 to take the match.
