Queens Volleyball Makes History with First-Ever ASUN Road Win in Dominant Sweep Over Stetson

DELAND, FLA. — The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball squad made history on Sunday, earning their first-ever ASUN road victory with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Stetson in DeLand, Fla. The Royals controlled the match from start to finish, winning 25-19, 25-12, and 25-22.

Leading the charge for Queens was Alleigh Johnson, who delivered an impressive 20 kills with just one error, posting an outstanding .594 hitting percentage. Kendall Buish facilitated the offense with 26 assists, while Jordyn Johnson contributed 10 digs and six kills. Kayla McDuffie added six kills of her own along with two blocks to help seal the win.

SET BY SET RECAP
Queens got off to a hot start in the first set, fueled by Alleigh Johnson's aggressive offense. The Royals jumped out to an 8-2 lead with strong kills from Johnson and Kayla McDuffie. Stetson, led by Anabelle Standish, attempted to rally back, cutting the lead to 13-11. However, Queens maintained their momentum with timely plays from Kendall Buish, who orchestrated the attack with her setting. Jordyn Johnson and Anna Grace Sparks also chipped in, and Queens capitalized on several Stetson attack errors to pull away, finishing the set 25-19. Queens hit an impressive .361 in the first set, recording 17 kills on just 4 errors.

Queens dominated the second set from start to finish. The Royals' defense was solid, holding Stetson to a -.103 hitting percentage. Queens quickly built a commanding lead, forcing Stetson into errors and converting on nearly every opportunity. J. Johnson and Sparks were unstoppable with multiple kills each in the frame while Queens' blocking presence at the net led by McDuffie and Sparks stifled Stetson's attempts to score. Queens' offense remained efficient, hitting .273 with 13 kills and just four errors, cruising to an easy 25-12 victory. Stetson struggled with consistency, managing just five kills and making eight attack errors in the set.

The third set was the most competitive, featuring 11 ties and six lead changes. Stetson showed more fight, with Standish and Jenna Simmons stepping up their offensive efforts. The teams traded points early, with neither side gaining a clear advantage. At 21-21, Queens seized control as A. Johnson once again delivered in the clutch, hammering down critical kills to put the Royals ahead 24-22. A final attack error from Stetson sealed the set and match for Queens, 25-22. Queens finished the set with 16 kills while Stetson hit .077, with nine kills and six errors.

  • The Royals hit .270 overall with 46 kills and 15 errors on 115 total attempts. 
  • Led by Alleigh Johnson's 20 kills on a .594 hitting percentage, the Royals also recorded three service aces, 46 digs, and five blocks.
