The Short Story:Â Behind three home runs, the Queens University of Charlotte baseball team evened the weekend series with an 11-7 game two victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Queens wasted no time jumping on the board plating two runs on three hits. The first four batters managed to generate action as
Jake Barbour and
Dillon Lewis earned consecutive singles. Senior
Matthew Corlew followed it up with an RBI single as both runners advanced into scoring position.
Tyler Cotto would manufacture the second run with a sacrifice fly to center field.
-Bellarmine answered back in the third with four runs on four hits. The scoring was capped off by a three-run home run from Brady Morse. Queens got a run back in the top of the fourth inning as
Jake Barbour worked a bases loaded walk. The Royals continued to threaten, but the Knights went to the bullpen and the new arm worked a 1-2-3 double play to escape the jam.
-The Royals bats came to life in the fifth inning as the visitors plated four runs on four hits.
Matthew Corlew got the scoring started with a solo home run to left field.
Tyler Cotto and
Will Budnick recorded singles before
Connor Manco belted the second home run of the inning to right field to extend the Royals lead to 7-4.
-For the third straight inning, the Royals found the scoring column. Following singles from
Dillon Lewis and
Matthew Corlew, junior
Will Budnick roped a three-run home run to right center for the Royals third homer of the game. Bellarmine responded in the bottom of the sixth inning when Davis Crane laced an RBI single through the left side. The Knights continued to threaten, but the Royals got a fly out to left field and
Connor Manco delivered a strike home to cut down another run for a double play.
-Bellarmine further cut into the Royals lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when Charlie Rife belted a two-run home run down the left field line.
-The Royals would add a key insurance run in the top of the ninth. With a runner on second and two outs, senior
Andrew McDermott delivered an RBI single through the right side to plate Budnick and extend the lead to 11-7.
BY THE NUMBERS
-Senior
Matthew Corlew turned in a solid 3-for-3 day at the plate, including his seventh home run of the year. The Lake Worth, Florida native scored two runs while also driving in a pair of runs.
-
Will Budnick became the third Royal this season to reach double digit home runs with his 10
th blast. The junior posted his 10
th multi-hit game and extended his hitting streak to five straight games.
-Senior
Connor Manco turned in his first multi-hit game of the season with a 2-for-5 game. Manco drove in three runs on his fourth home run of the year.
-The leader of the offense
Dillon Lewis recorded his 28
th multi-hit game going 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
-Outfielder
Andrew McDermott posted his sixth multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 day. The senior drove in a key insurance run in the top of the ninth inning.
-
Jake Barbour,
Tyler Cotto, and
Mason Kelly added a base hit on the day. Barbour has scored successfully in four straight games.
-Freshman
Jack Brooker earned his third start of the season and tossed 5.0 innings allowing four runs on five hits.
-
Logan Schmitt tossed a flawless 4.0 innings of relief to pick up his first save of the year.

The Short Story:Â Despite a two home run game from junior
Dillon Lewis, the Queens University of Charlotte baseball team dropped their regular season finale at Bellarmine, 6-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Following a leadoff single from
Jake Barbour, the veteran
Dillon Lewis blasted his 21
st home run of the season over the center field fence to give the Royals an early 2-0 lead.
-The Knights got one of those runs back in the bottom of the first on a two-out RBI single through the left side from Luke Scales.
-Queens countered the Knights run with a run in the top of the second inning.
Nick Alderfer led off the frame with a solo blast to left center to extend the lead back to 3-1.
-For the third straight inning, the Royals profited off the long ball as
Dillon Lewis sent a one-out blast to right center for his second homer of the game.
-Bellarmine came storming back in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs on five hits. The Knights used four singles and a two-out RBI double to tie the game 4-4.
-The Knights would grab a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Matt Flaherty sent a two-run home run to left field.
-Queens threatened in the final frame putting runners on first and second with two outs.
Tyler Cotto delivered a single up the middle, but a strike from the Knights center fielder cut down a run at the plate to end the game.
BY THE NUMBERS
-Junior
Dillon Lewis extended his hitting streak to six straight games with a 3-for-4 game. The Charlotte native blasted his team-leading 21
st and 22
nd home runs as he now ranks top 15 in the nation in homers.
-
Jake Barbour knocked his 14
th multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 outing, including a run scored.
-
Tyler Cotto added a 2-for-3 game in his final outing as a Royal.
-
Nick Alderfer,
Zach Weston, and
Mason Kelly added hits for the offense. Alderfer blasted his third home run of the season.
-Queens starter
Landry Jurecka tossed 4.1 innings while allowing five earned runs on 11 hits. The sophomore fanned six Knights on the day.
