CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Royals (6-4) collected an 18-11 road win at Wofford (2-5) this afternoon, knocking off their third Big South opponent this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Queens attacked early scoring five unanswered goals to start the game. The Terriers would get hot in the second, reeling off five straight to knot the game at 5-5 with 7:44 to play, but the Royals closed the period with a 4-2 push to take a two-point lead at the half.
Queens remained in control in the third quarter outscoring Wofford 4-1 to hold a 13-8 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of play where they solidified their win.
KEY STATS & NOTES
- Kayleen Favreau put on a clinic en route to crossing the century mark in career points. The sophomore attacker recorded six goals and five assists for a new career-high 11 points on the day. Her five assists were a new career-high as well.
- Elise Grissett recorded a hat trick and two assists while Ainsley Thurston added three goals and one assist.
- Olivia Abe and Maura O'Donoghue each tallied two goals and one assist. O'Donoghue also added four draw controls and four ground balls.
- Defensively, Isabella Swanson tallied a career-high four caused turnovers to go along with four ground balls and four draw controls.
- In goal, Gianna Coburn recorded four saves in 26:34 while Caroline Kraemer tallied six saves in 33:26.
- Emma Stalteri and Bria Foley each had three goals to lead Wofford.
- Queens edged the Terriers 28-27, putting 23 shots on goal.
- The Royals won the battle for ground balls, 32-27, and totaled 14 draw controls to Wofford's 19.
