Queens Fights in Five-Setter over Quincy in Series Finale

QUINCY, ILL. — The Queens men's volleyball program battled in their second five-setter in a row against Quincy on Saturday night, but fell by a score of 3-2 (23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 13-25, 10-15).

SET BY SET
After falling in the first set by two points, a win-hungry Royals squad attacked early in the next two sets. Queens held multiple seven-point leads with the help of Shaphar Grant on the block to secure an eight-point win in the second, and pieced together a three-point win in the third to take the 2-1 set advantage over the Hawks.

The Hawks found a momentum-booster in the fourth set after a seven-point unanswered run gave their squad a 20-11 lead. Despite solid offensive runs led by Jack Brinkman, the Hawks would tie the night at two sets a piece.

In the fifth, both sides of the net battled point-by-point before the Hawks mustered up two consecutive points from an AJ Goedheer kill and a Queens attack error. Chance Shampine put back a kill to keep it at a one-point game before another two-point run gave the Hawks the three-point advantage. Stirling Sims would slam another kill down to halt the Hawks, but a late three-point rally would solidify a final 15-10 Quincy triumph.

REMARKS FROM HEAD COACH JEREMY PRICE
"This is a good reminder for us as to how hard this will be against MIVA opponents on the road, especially back-to-back nights," Head Coach Jeremy Price said post-match. "I thought both teams competed really well. Jack [Brinkman] was excellent again, finished with 18 kills. At times we got a few guys going, but we didn't really sustain it. This will be a good opportunity for us to learn how to play back-to-back matches against the same opponent, and we look forward to coming back to Levine next week to face Purdue Fort-Wayne."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Offensively, Brinkman led the night with 18 kills while Albert Warzocha and Shampine each secured double-digit kills with 11 and 10, respectively.

Grant completed the night with two aces and three blocks to lead the Royals, and Daniel Leitao led the assist column with 40. Chris Peters finished with a career-high nine digs.

UP NEXT
Next, the Royals head back home inside the Levine Center to face conference opponent Purdue Fort-Wayne on Feb. 9-10 in a two-match series.
