The Short Story: Despite a solo blast from senior
JJ Sousa, the Queens University of Charlotte baseball team fell in their second game of the 2024 season.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
-After two scoreless innings, the Bulldogs adjusted at the plate in the third inning and found their groove. A hit-by-pitch and a single put runners on first and second with one out before Lucas Steele belted a three-run homer over the right field fence.
-The Royals would respond immediately in the top of the fourth inning. Left-handed hitter
JJ Sousa would smash a one-out solo home run to trim the Bulldog lead to 3-1.
-Samford would add a run back in the bottom half of the fourth as third basemen Garrett Staton laced a one-out RBI triple into right field.
-After putting the Royals down in order, the Samford offense exploded for seven runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases with no outs for the Bulldogs. Pitching miscues by Queens would push across two runs before a sacrifice fly plated the third run of the inning. The Bulldogs would then manufacture two-out offense with a pair of singles and a passed ball pushing across four more runs to extend their lead to 11-1.
-In the sixth inning, the Bulldogs got two runners in scoring position before a sacrifice fly pushed across their 12th run of the game.
-
Nick Alderfer would pinch hit in the seventh inning and reach base via an infield single before the Bulldogs closed out the evening with a double play.
