The Queens Royals struggled to find consistent rhythm in a tough 82-66 loss to the Western Carolina Catamounts on Saturday afternoon at Curry Arena. Despite a career high from freshman guard
Magda Freire, who led the Royals with 21 points, Queens fell short in their bid and dropped to 5-5 overall.

Magda Freire turned in 36 minutes and set multiple career highs in the loss. The Linda a Velha, Portugal native, finished with 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 3-of-7 from beyond the arc, and added seven rebounds and three steals, all personal best.

Jordyn Weaver chipped in 14 points on 4-of-10 shooting and 6-of-7 from the line, adding four rebounds and two steals.

Dayuna Colvin went a perfect 9-of-10 from the free-throw line, finishing with 11 points and four rebounds.
NOTABLE MOMENTS
The Royals opened with a slow start, as Western Carolina surged to a 21-10 lead in the first quarter. Queens regrouped in the second quarter, led by Freire and Weaver, to outscore the Catamounts 20-16. Queens cut the deficit to as little as four points during their best scoring run of seven consecutive points.
Western Carolina took complete control in the third quarter, outscoring Queens 30-19. The Catamounts shot an impressive 70.6 percent from the floor during the period.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Queens struggled from the field, shooting just 29.2 percent overall and 19 percent from three-point range.
- Despite their shooting woes, the Royals excelled at the free-throw line, hitting 24-of-30 attempt.
- The Royals defense forced 22 turnovers, turning them into 17 points. Queens has now forced over 20 turnovers in four games this season.
