CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team finished out their 2024 campaign in the ASUN Volleyball Championship Quarterfinals, falling 3-0 (8-25, 25-10, 12-25) to the number-one seeded Florida Gulf Coast.
SET BY SET RECAP
The match opened with Queens taking the first point of the frame on a service ace from Kendall Buish. However, FGCU responded with a dominant offensive surge, quickly building a significant lead. Queens managed to score, including a kill from Anna Grace Sparks, but struggled to contain FGCU's efficient attack led by Skylar English and Shelby Kent. FGCU capitalized and took the first set, 25-8.
Queens came out tough early in the second set, with Kayla McDuffie earning a kill to put them on the scoreboard. However, FGCU's relentless offensive performance kept Queens on the defensive. Highlights for Queens included another kill by McDuffie and a forcing attack error from FGCU, but a series of blocks and aces by FGCU extended their lead and sealed the set.
The final set saw Queens battling to stay competitive, with Jordyn Johnson and Emma Norris contributing kills to keep the Royals within striking distance early. Despite rallies of solid play, including McDuffie's fifth kill of the match, Queens struggled against FGCU's consistent blocking and serving pressure. FGCU closed out the match with a balanced attack, securing the sweep.
