Oliver and Royals Beat Belmont Abbey in Home Opener 43-10

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Queens University of Charlotte men's rugby team shined in the home opener Saturday night as they outlasted the Belmont Abbey Crusaders 43-10.
 
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Royals would strike first early in the first half as Hilton Oliver scored a try and conversion to give Queens a 7-0 lead. Belmont Abbey would then get on the board courtesy of a penalty kick to make the score 7-3. In the middle of the first half, Queens was then awarded a penalty kick which was scored by Hilton Oliver to make the score 10-3. Belmont Abbey would then tie with a try and conversion of their own to make the score 10-10 at the end of the half.
 
Queens would start the second half on fire as Roman Denevi sped through the Belmont Abbey defense to give the Royals the 15-10 advantage. Shortly after, Hilton would score another try and conversion for the Royals to make the lead 22-10. Hilton Oliver still had the hot hand as scored his third try and another conversion to keep the Royals on top 29-10. The Royals didn't stop as Gideon Wessels ran in the try from the opponent's side to make the score 36-10. Hilton Oliver just couldn't slow down as he scored a fourth try and conversion to put Queens up 43-10.

"We had a very good test tonight. I feel like the team really stepped up in the second half. I think this game is going to give us a couple things to work on as we prepare for Navy."
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Royals will travel to Annapolis, MD for a key matchup against Navy on Saturday September 23rd at 1:00 PM.
