CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte Director of Triathlon
Sonni Dyer has released the varsity program's 2023 schedule as they head into year two of Division I competition.
The Royals will kick off their season nearby, competing in the Bulldog Super-Sprint hosted by Wingate on Sept. 3. They will then travel to two collegiate cup events with the first scheduled to take place on Sept. 9 at Duquesne. The second one will be raced at Navy on Sept. 24 before the Royals head into postseason.
Queens will open its postseason with the NCAA East Regional at Smith Mountain Lake on Oct. 14 and the National Championships will follow on Nov. 11 in Tempe, Ariz.
"We're super excited about the 2023 NCAA Tri season ahead," Dyer stated. "Opening with a nearby heats-and-finals format at the Super-Sprint distances is a great technical and skills tune-up against a top-ranked Wingate program. From there, we'll split the rosters into two travel squads to take on both East Coast Collegiate Cup events in Pennsylvania and Virginia. This way, every team member gets maximal opportunity to elevate their individual ranking score which will serve to earn us a maximal 10 spots in the NCAA East Regional. By November, our top seven will be selected as we prepare to compete for the National Championship. We learned a lot with a very young team in 2022 and are now ready to take that next step up on the podium."
The Royals raced to a second-place finish at last season's national championship, which was their inaugural DI season. Additionally, six Royals were named to the CTCA All-American and Scholar All-American teams.
