CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The regular season came to an end for the Royals Saturday afternoon, as they played host to Liberty in the final game of a three-game series. Queens got out to an early 2-0 lead but was quickly diminished as Liberty's offense would go off for 14 runs in the succeeding innings, resulting in a 14-2 loss for the Royals.
Kayla Smith led things off in the bottom of the first and continued her strong weekend by laying down a bunt and reaching safely. She'd eventually find her way onto third after a sacrifice bunt by
Jordyn Thompson and a single by
Kasidi Staley.
Kaylee DeJesus followed Staley and layed down a perfect bunt that would score Smith and see her reach safely as Queens took an early 1-0 lead.
Two innings later, the Royals would double their lead off the bat of
Kayla Smith, who smashed her fifth home run of of the season off the top of the right field wall.
Liberty would push back in the top of the fifth, plating a pair of runs and knotting the game at two.
An inning later, the Flames' offense would add another five runs, giving them a 7-2 lead heading into the final two innings.
Liberty would continue to swing away, bringing home another seven runs in the final two innings and taking the final game of the series, 14-2.
