The Short Story:Â Multi-hit performances from Christian Maggio and Andrew McDermott were not enough as the Royals dropped the weekend opener with Stetson University on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Stetson would get the scoring started in the top of the first inning with three runs on three hits and one Queens error.
-The Hatters would add two more runs in the top of the second inning. Andrew Estrella worked a leadoff walk and stole second. David Bermudez would single to left field before Cameron Hill doubled to right field for an RBI. Landon Moran would follow it up with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-0.
-Stetson would plate another run in the third marking their third straight scoring frame. Andrew Estrella ripped a two-out RBI double increasing their lead to 6-0.
-The Hatters would continue their early scoring with a three-run fourth inning. The scoring was capped off by a Daniel Labrador three-run home run to left field.
-Stetson would pile it on in the fifth inning capitalizing on three walks and two extra-base hits. With runners on second and third and two outs, Daniel Labrador sent a three-run double to left field. Drew Wyers followed it up on the next pitch with a two-run home run to left center for the 14-0 lead.
-The Hatters continued to pour it on with two runs on three hits and two Royals errors in the sixth inning extending their lead to 16-0.
BY THE NUMBERS
-Christian Maggio led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance extending his hitting streak to eight games. The multi-hit performance marked the graduate students' 12th of the season.
-Sophomore Andrew McDermott turned in his fourth multi-hit game, and second straight with a 2-for-3 outing. McDermott has reached safely in three straight games.
-JJ Sousa and Nick Melton added a base hit on the night. Sousa has reached safely in seven of the last eight games.
-Sophomore Blake Efird tossed 2.0 innings of relief allowing one earned run and picking up a strikeout.
-Daniel Labrador finished the night 3-for-5 with six runs driven in for the Hatters.
-The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Royals.

The Royals and Hatters will continue their final ASUN series tomorrow, May 19th at 6:00 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN Plus.
