WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's rugby team picked up a pair of victories and made an appearance in the USAR College 7's National Championships on Saturday. The Royals took down Air Force and Brown before squaring off with Indiana University in the quarterfinal contest.
In the opening match with the Falcons, the Royals went into the break with Air Force tied 14-14. Queens used a strong second-half performance to emerge victorious 26-19.
Flillippo Parasmo and
Hilton Olivier finished with a pair of tries and the Royals went 3-for-4 on conversions.
The opening-round victory set the Royals up to face Brown in the second round. The Royals and Bears were tied 7-7 at the break before the Royals outscored the Bears in the second half to capture the 14-12 victory.
Mark Bazarian and
Hilton Olivier secured tries sending the Royals to Final Eight in the Premier Bracket.
Queens faced a tough battle in the quarterfinals of the National Championships squaring off against Indiana. The Hoosiers would take down the Royals 32-5 putting an end to the Royals championship run.
Hilton Olivier converted a try for the third straight game.
Queens will take the field tomorrow, April 30 in a consolation match. The opponent and time are still TBD as the matches from Saturday are still finishing.
