CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Queens continued its series against Jacksonville with a pair of games Sunday morning/afternoon. Both games remained close, however the Dolphins would ultimately. come out on top in both; taking the first game 7-4 before sneaking by Queens in the second game, 2-1.
GAME 1
Abby Craver got the start in game one and went to work right away. She threw 2.1 scoreless innings and managed a strikeout before allowing the first run of the game in the top of the third.
After being held scoreless in the fourth, Jacksonville knocked a pair of home runs that sparked a five-run fifth inning, with
Autumn Courtney coming in to relief after the fifth run was scored.
Queens would get one back in the bottom of the fifth, as a SAC fly by
Gerlea Patton brought home
Ashlyn Mickler and put the Royals on the board.
Mickler helped contribute to Queens' second run, as she hit an infield single that scored
Jordyn Thompson and cut the deficit to five, 7-2.
The Royals continued to chip away, as
Kaylee DeJesus was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that scored
Kasidi Staley, before a groundout by
Gerlea Patton helped
Madyson Daughtry score and shorten the Dolphins' lead, 7-4.
Queens would be held scoreless for the remainder of the game, as Jacksonville took the first game, 7-4.
GAME 2
Jacksonville got on the board early in the second game, having a run cross the plate in the top of the first inning.
The Dolphins extended their lead to two in the top of the sixth inning with a home run to right center field.
Jordyn Thompson got one back for the Royals in the bottom of the sixth, as she laced a home run down the right field line to bring Queens within one.
Queens managed a few more baserunners late but were unable to capitalize, as Jacksonville held on, 2-1.
NEXT UP
The Royals hit the road for their final series away from home this season, as they head to North Alabama on April 29-30.
