CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team (1-6, 0-2) fell on the road at Bellarmine (6-2, 1-1), 23-12, this afternoon.
How it Happened
The Knights got off to a strong start, scoring four unanswered goals in the opening quarter. However, the Royals answered with three straight to give the game a 4-3 score with less than two minutes left in the period. The Knights would have the final say with a goal at 51 seconds giving them a 5-3 lead heading into the second quarter where they opened the game up with a seven-goal run that put them in front 12-3. A four-goal spurt by the Royals would give the game a 12-7 score at the half.
Bellarmine ran away with the game in the third quarter adding seven goals to the board while holding the Royals scoreless in the period. Queens outscored the Knights, 5-4, in the final quarter of play but the damage had already been done.
Key Stats & Notes
- Hunter Meyer recorded a hat trick for Queens today while Brendan Nace added five points on two goals and three assists. Jacob Bowen added two goals and two assists while Joey Szabo had two goals and one assist.
- Queens' Wesley Wheat took the loss in goal today after totaling seven saves in 22:51. Gage Turner recorded seven saves in 36:09.
- Kyle Playsted led the Knights with nine points on six goals and three assists. Christian DellaRocco added six goals and Benny O'Rourk totaled five goals.
- Queens was outshot, 53-32, by Bellarmine who put 38 shots on goal compared to Queens' 22.
- The Falcons beat the Royals in the circle winning 25-of-38 face-offs. They also won the battle for ground balls, 34-28.

"I was proud of the players for their effort and resiliency," said head coach
Chris Panos. "We made some plays that helped stop their run, but overall, hat tip to Bellarmine on taking advantage of our turnovers and miscues to earn the win. We still have plenty to play for in the strong ASUN Conference. We will rest up, get healthy, and shift our attention to Lindenwood on the road this coming Wednesday.
