The Short Story:Â The Queens University of Charlotte baseball team dropped the weekend series finale against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Royals struck first in the top of the first inning with a run on two hits. Andrew McDermott would rip a one-out single into right-center before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Riley Cheek would reach on a throwing error by the Gamecocks and McDermott advanced to third. Dillon Lewis would capitalize with an RBI single into right center.
-Jacksonville State would answer immediately in the bottom of the first with six runs on five hits.
-The Gamecocks added a run in the third to extend their lead to 7-1. Following a leadoff single, Will Fincher stole second base and Carson Crowe singled to right field bringing across Fincher.
-JSU would extend their lead to 10-1 in the fifth inning plating three runs on two hits and three Royals errors.
-Queens answered in the top of the sixth inning with a run. Riley Cheek and Dillon Lewis worked back-to-back walks. The Gamecocks would induce a 1-6-3 double play, but Cheek would advance to third before scoring on a wild pitch. Colin Gross and Tyler Peters both worked walks and Zach Weston singled to load the bases, but the Gamecocks would pick up a strikeout to minimize the damage.

BY THE NUMBERS
-Zach Weston led the offense with a 2-for-3 afternoon. The multi-hit performance was the second of the season for the senior.
-Andrew McDermott, Dillon Lewis, and JD Coleman added a hit on the day.
-Despite snapping his 14-game hitting streak, Riley Cheek extended his on-base streak to 19 games with a walk.
-Joseph Rodriguez, Brandon Dahlman, and Justin Offschanka combined to throw the final seven innings while surrendering just six hits, two earned runs and striking out six Gamecocks.
-The Royals put at least one runner on the bases in 6-of-9 innings but struggled as they hit into three double plays.
-Queens dropped their fourth-weekend series this season as they are on a 10-game losing skid.
-The Royals have committed three or more errors in six games this season going 1-5 in those games.
NEXT UP
The Royals will begin a six-game home stretch on Tuesday, March 21
st against USC Upstate. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Queens will continue ASUN play next weekend when they welcome the Lipscomb Bisons to Charlotte.
