ATLANTA, Ga. – Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer defender
Samuel Idinge was recognized on the 2023-24 Fall Winners for Life team, as officially announced by the league on Thursday afternoon.
"Sam exemplifies the definition of a student-athlete on the field and in the classroom while making a great impact in our campus, community, and city," said head coach
Oliver Carias. "He is also a great team captain and always willing to help others and lead by example."
Samuel Idinge started all 16 games playing every minute of action on the Royals backline. The junior led the entire ASUN in total minutes played and was awarded Second Team All-Conference honors. The center-back scored a pair of goals on the year, including the game-winner against Winthrop. In the pivotal regular-season finale, Idinge netted the equalizer in the 72
nd minute setting up the game-winner from
Michel Feldman to send the Royals to their first ASUN Tournament. As the leader of the backline, Idinge helped the Royals post four clean sheets which was tied for the ASUN high.
In the classroom, Idinge holds a 3.51 GPA while majoring in Exercise and Sports Science. In the Charlotte community, Idinge is heavily involved in the Charlotte Eagles youth soccer club, Raise Up Ministries, SAAC, Resident Assistant in a first-year residence hall, and Investing in Champions.
The 2023-24 Fall Winners for Life team is composed of one student-athlete from all 12 institutions and honors those who display excellence on and off the playing surface. The Winners for Life team honors a campus citizen who is respected as one who shared and/or demonstrates the ASUN Core Values: Education, Honesty, Student-Athlete Experience, Fairness, Health, Ambition, Respect, Diversity, Inclusion, Leadership, Responsibility and Sportsmanship.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must have competed in the current academic year in an ASUN-sponsored sport and be in good academic standing at his/her university.
