The Short Story:Â On the opening night of college basketball, the Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team was plagued by 18 turnovers which Marshall converted into 23 points as the Herd routed the Royals 89-73.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Junior guard
Deyton Albury led the Royals with a game-high 19 points in his first game in the blue and gold. The Nassau, Bahamas native added a game-high eight rebounds and eight assists.

Chris Ashby poured in 15 points on a 5-for-14 mark from behind the arc.
-Preseason All-Conference recipient
AJ McKee posted his 32
nd double-digit performance in Division 1 with a 14-point effort. The junior added six rebounds and two assists on the evening.

Bryce Cash and
Jacobi Sebock combined to score 11 points while pulling down 12 total rebounds.
-The Royals outrebounded the Herd for the second straight year 45-43.
-Marshall cashed in from the field at a 49-percent clip, including 44 points in the paint while the Royals shot 39 percent from the field and 27 percent from behind the arc.
NOTABLE MOMENTS
- The first eight minutes of action saw the Royals commit seven turnovers which the Herd converted into 13 points. During that span, Marshall used a 12-0 run to grab a 24-7 lead.
-Trailing 38-17 with 5:43 remaining in the first half, the Royals went on a 17-4 run cutting the deficit to eight.
-Leading 55-47 with 14:59 remaining in the second half, Marshall used an 11-6 surge to increase their lead back to 14.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Queens fell to 16-6 in Division 1 when outrebounding their opponent.
-The 89 points from Marshall were the most by a Royals opponent since January 19, 2023, at North Florida.
-In the last 10 seasons, the Royals are 8-2 in season openers.
-The loss evened the all-time series 1-1 with the Herd.
