CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a five-set thriller, the Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team suffered a setback to North Florida inside the Levine Center, falling by a score of 3-2 (17-25, 25-19, 18-25, 27-25, 6-15). With the defeat, the Royals fall to 4-19 on the season and 1-10 in conference play while the Ospreys improve to 13-12 overall and 6-5 in conference play.
In the match, Jesse George recorded her 1,000th career dig as she joined Kendall Buish in the 1,000 club this season — two Royals who accrued 1,000 of any statistic for their career in the 2023 season.
TURNING POINT
After dominating in the first set and starting strong in the second, North Florida struggled a bit in the middle of the second set and allowed the Royals to grab momentum and take control near the finale. After holding the lead for most of the set, the Royals had a serve with the score tied at 18. With that serve, miscommunication by the Ospreys caused an ace by Kayla McDuffie which gave the Royals a 19-18 lead and caused North Florida to call a timeout. Despite the timeout, Queens held momentum to a second set win 25-19 by out-scoring the Ospreys 8-1 to finish the set. In the fourth frame, the Royals battled back-and-forth with the Ospreys before going on a 3-1 run late to finish with a 27-25 set victory to send the match into a fifth set.
