THE SHORT STORY: The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team dropped their season-opening doubleheader against James Madison and Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon as they kicked off their first Division 1 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Royals were unable to capture the doubles point in both matches resulting in an early deficit. Against the Hokies,
Edoardo Cecere and
Laurenz Blickwede faced off against the 23rd-ranked doubles pairing of Ryan Fishback and Alberto Orso.
-In the opener against the Dukes, sophomore
Win Steveker picked up his first victory of the season at No. 4 defeating Youssef Sadek 6-2, 6-3.
-Newcomer
Milan Gonela battled hard at No. 5 against JMU despite falling in a tiebreaker 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(7-3).
-Senior
Edoardo Bottino got the Royals on the board against the Hokies with a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (7-5) from the No. 2 court.

Edoardo Cecere and
Laurenz Blickwede battled in their respective singles match against Virginia Tech as they both fell in three sets. Cecere fell to Ryan Fishback who is ranked #32 in singles play by the ITA.

The Royals will remain on the road as they square off against #14 Wake Forest in Winston-Salem on Sunday, January 22
nd at 5:00 p.m. The meeting will be the first of two between the Royals and the Demon Deacons this spring.
