CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Queens headed to South Carolina for their first road match of the season, taking on North Greenville.
Fletcher Murphy and
Daniel Leitao spearheaded Queens' offensive attack but their efforts fell short as North Greenville would claim a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-19, 25-21).
With the loss, Queens falls to 0-2 while North Greenville gets their first win of the season, 1-0.
GAME SUMMARY
Leitao managed three kills early on as the Royals trailed 13-10. A strong offensive effort by
Matthew Pilch helped Queens stay within reach, as he managed four kills in the opening set, including a late kill which brought the score within two, 21-19. Queens would continue to fight but would fall just short, 25-21.
Murphy swung efficiently in the second set with four kill on six attempts with no errors. He sparked a three-point run early in the second to cut Queens' deficit to 10-9, later sparking a four-point run to keep the Royals within two, 15-13. North Greenville would pull ahead and maintain the lead for the remainder of the set, taking the second 25-19.
A kill by
Stirling Sims put Queens ahead early in the third, 4-3. A few points later, Sims and Pilch would team up for back-to-back block assists to increase Queens' lead to 7-5. The Crusaders would respond with a run of their own, re-gaining the lead, 12-9. A kill by
Jack Brinkman would bring the score within one, but Queens was unable to pull ahead, as NGU would hold on to take the set and ultimately the match.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Fletcher Murphy continues to swing with high success, once again finishing with seven kills and no errors, bringing his hitting percentage to .636 on the season.
- Along with Murphy, Leitao led the Royals' offensive attack with seven kills himself.
- Stirling Sims enjoyed a nice day at the net, putting away six kills while totaling four blocks including one solo.
- At setter, Brian Schwob dished out 27 assists while adding two kills of his own.
