Women's Volleyball Battles Jacksonville State

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Queens returned home for the first of two games in as many days, falling to Jacksonville State in straight sets (25-14, 25-12, 25-15).

With the loss, Queens falls to 5-11 (0-3 in the ASUN) while Jacksonville State improves to 15-1 (3-0 in the ASUN).

The Royals welcomed last season's conference runners up, fighting and clawing their way to earn each point. Junior Victoria Wood dialed up two kills early in the first set to knot the set at four. She'd earn a third kill later in the set, along with Queens' offensive leader Alleigh Johnson who also managed three kills in the opening set. A few good runs by the Gamecocks propelled them to a first-set victory.

Wood earned her fourth kill in the opening points of the second set and helped Queens get out to an early 3-1 lead. Her and Alleigh Johnson continued to power the Royals' offense as another kill by Wood, combined with a kill and ace from Johnson cut Queens' deficit to two, 8-6. Sophomore setter Kendall Buish did a nice job of find Wood on the right side, as she totaled four kills on the set, helping contribute to Buish's 17 assists on the day. The home team fought hard but were taken down 25-12 in the second set.

Buish continued to contribute in the final set, as she earned numerous points via a kill, a block, and an ace, to go along with four assists in the third set. The Royals continued to earn every point and enjoyed a nice push late in the set, earning seven of 12 points, but ultimately saw Jacksonville State take the set and the match.
