CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team dropped their Saturday doubleheader against the reigning SOCON regular season champions from Mercer and a very tough Southern Mississippi squad.

The Short Story:
Alleigh Johnson recorded 16 kills as Royals fall to reigning SOCON Regular Season Champions from Mercer.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Alleigh Johnson led the Royals attack with 16 kills on a .286 hitting percentage. The double-digit performance was the sophomores fourth straight, and 12th of her career.
- Jordyn Johnson was pivotal on both sides of the ball recording nine kills and 13 digs.
- Senior leader Abbey Criser posted nine kills on a .318 hitting clip.
- Freshman Hallie Brown made her presence felt at the net recording eight kills on 12 attempts. On defense, the freshman earned four blocks, including two solo. Through the first five matches, Brown has totaled 14 blocks.
- As a group, the Royals hit .270 with eight service aces and six blocks. Mercer finished with a .302 hitting percentage, 11 aces, and four blocks.
NOTABLE MOMENTS
- In the opening set, the Royals used an impressive 9-1 rally, including five kills and an ace in that span to storm past the Bears. Queens has won the opening set in four straight matches.
- A late 5-0 run in the second set by the Royals to even the score 23-23 was not enough as Mercer capitalized on a pair of attack errors to halt the Queens comeback effort.
- Queens went on a late 6-1 run in the third set, but the Bears quick start was enough as they recorded 16 kills in route to the set victory.
- Trailing 17-11 in the fourth frame, Queens went on a 6-1 push to close the deficit to 18-17 and forcing Mercer into a timeout. Coming out of the break, the Bears closed the set and took the match.

BY THE NUMBERS
- Junior Anna Law was efficient on the attack picking up five kills on 10 attempts. The Hartford, Kentucky native also dished out a pair of assists and recorded a solo block.
- Alleigh Johnson led the Royals with nine kills.
- Senior Abbey Criser led the team with three blocks assists and added three kills on the attack.
- The Golden Eagles hit an impressive .375 and tallied 48 kills and eight service aces.
NOTABLE MOMENTS
- Tied 8-8 in the opening set, Southern Mississippi used a 4-0 rally to open their lead and forced the Royals into a timeout. Queens responded with a 6-0 surge to close the deficit to 19-18, but the Golden Eagles held off the Queens comeback efforts.
- The Golden Eagles wasted no time jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the second set which forced a Queens timeout.
- Following a tight start to the third set, Southern Mississippi would use a 6-0 run to break the match open and secure the straight set victory.
