Gaither Nets Second Goal of the Season in Battle with Stetson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (0-5-3, 0-2 ASUN) dropped a 90-minute conference dual with the Stetson Hatters (4-5-1, 1-0-1 ASUN) on Sunday afternoon at Dickson Field. Senior Nia Gaither picked up her second goal of the season in the second half to even the score.

Turning Point
The turning point of the afternoon proved to be the Hatters second goal of the game in the 62nd minute. Jillian Therrien toed up a corner kick and Royals goalkeeper Erica Turner managed to punch the ball out. Lea Alexander was in the right spot at the top of the box and sent a shot to the bottom left corner for a Stetson goal.
 
Key Stats & Notes
  • Senior forward Nia Gaither tallied her 21st career goal. The Harrisburg, N.C. native leads the Royals this season in points, goals, shots, and shots on goal. In the last five matches, Gaither has put nine shots on the cage.
  • Junior forward Girah Durant earned her first career assist on the Gaither goal after setting up the senior with a beautiful cross into the box. Durant also added a pair of shots on the afternoon.
  • Senior goalkeeper Erica Turner made her 60th appearance in net for the Royals which is second most all-time in program history. The Dublin, Ireland native recorded three saves increasing her career total to 255 which is third all-time.
  • Grace Guglielmo posted a career-high two shots in the match, including one on target.
  • Despite losing the shooting battle 8-7, Queens amped up their offensive pressure in the second half winning the shooting battle 5-4.
  • In the last two conference matches, the Royals have totaled 15 shots and seven shots on goal against league opponents.
  • 18 Royals took the pitch in the second conference match of the season. Erica Turner, Jada Palmer, and Sophia Muetterties led the way with 90-minute performances. For Turner and Palmer, the complete game is their eighth this season.

Queens will go on the road next weekend for a pair of conference matches beginning on Thursday, Sept. 22 at Kennesaw State. The Royals will wrap up the weekend at Jacksonville State on Sunday, Sept. 25.
