Two ties followed in the second quarter before a goal from Kinsley gave the Royals their first lead of the day, 7-6. However, the Spartans would close the half with back-to-back scores to take an 8-7 lead into the break.

The Royals would create some space between themselves and the Spartans in the third outscoring Tampa, 4-1, thanks to back-to-back goals from Kingston. Queens then hung on to its lead in the fourth edging the Spartans 5-4 in the period to move on with the three-goal win.
