No. 1 Queens Clinches Seventh Outright SAC Regular-Season Championship on Senior Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The top-ranked Queens University of Charlotte Royals clinched their seventh outright South Atlantic Conference Regular-Season Championship this afternoon with a Senior Day victory over Catawba College. The 24-3 win also clinches the first perfect regular season for the Royals in program history as they enter the postseason with a 17-0 record. Queens got off to a perfect 5-0 start in 2020 before COVID-19 shut the season down.
 
Rebecca Kinsley led with eight points on five goals and three assists. She has now surpassed the century mark in points this season with 106. Shannon Donovan also recorded five goals to go along with one assist for six points. Also recording six points was Carson Giordano who totaled two goals and four assists to surpass 100 career points. Kyleigh Masteran added four goals while Shannon Kingston and Katilyn Hardin each added two. Hardin also dished out five assists.
 
The Royals wasted no time this afternoon jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter before invoking the running clock in the second. They would lead 16-0 before the Indians found the back of the net for the first time with 2:51 to play in the half.
 
Leading 16-1 at the start of the third, Queens cruised to today's 21-point win outscoring the Indians 8-2 in the second half.
 
The Royals outshot Catawba, 49-12, putting 41 shots on goal. Queens also won 19 draw controls with Sydney Bracken and Maddie Land each tallying five. Sydney Hussey totaled four and scored her first career goal in the victory.
 
Aryn Dorr of Catawba finished play in goal with 17 saves.

Queens will be seeded first in the South Atlantic Conference Championships which begin with the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, Apr. 26. The Royals will receive a bye and are scheduled to play on Friday, Apr. 29 at 11 a.m. in the semifinals. The semifinal and final rounds will be played in Hickory, N.C., on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne University.
