No. 18 Royals Claim 2022 SAC Championship Defeating No. 30 Wingate

SUMTER, N.C. - The No. 18 Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team (15-4) emerged victorious taking down No. 30 Wingate University 4-1 to claim their third South Atlantic Conference Championship title in program history. The victory extends the Royals winning streak to 11 straight matches as they will await to find out their NCAA journey.

Edoardo Bottino and Laurenz Blickwede took the court to start the doubles play with a 6-2 win at No. 1 but it wasn't enough as Wingate took the early 1-0 lead, winning the doubles points with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
 
Following the doubles defeat, The Royals Fought back with wins at No. 2 singles by Edoardo Cecere 6-3, 6-1 and No. 6 Yoan Roussinov 6-1, 6-1 to bring the Royals up 2-1. Win Steveker followed at No. 3 winning 6-4, 6-2 to extend the lead to 3-1.
 
Queens' Laurenz Blickwede would clinch the match at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 victory assisting the Royals to claim the 2022 SAC Men's Tennis Tournament title.
 
On top of clinching match point, Laurenz Blickwede was also named the tournament's Most Valuable Player as the freshman was 2-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles during the tournament.

The Royals' fight has earned them an automatic spot at the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Regional Championships beginning May 7. More information on the championships will be coming out shortly.
