CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team picked up their second consecutive win at they defeated the Lees-McRae College Bobcats in a 3-0 sweep on Tuesday evening in Banner Elk. The Royals will be back on the road this weekend as they compete against crosstown rival Belmont Abbey College on Friday, April 1 at 5:00 p.m. The Royals will be looking to complete the regular season sweep of the Crusaders after dropping Belmont Abbey in Charlotte 3-2 a month ago.

The evening opened with the Bobcats grabbing a 3-1 lead behind three kills. However, the Royals would quickly respond with a 6-1 run taking a 7-4 lead. The Royals would capitalize on that early momentum shift and maintain their lead for the entirety of the set despite a pair of Bobcat comeback attempts. Trailing 24-19, Lees-McRae went on a 5-0 run to pull within a point, but a kill from
Brandon Grabow secured the close first set 25-23. The Royals would find success on the attack in the opener recording 10 kills on a .438 hitting percentage while capitalizing on five Bobcats service errors.

Alike the first set, the Bobcats grabbed the early lead at 3-0. However, Queens responded again with a 9-1 surge to grab a commanding 9-4 lead. Both units would exchange points for the entirety of the set and the Royals closed on a 3-0 run with a pair of kills to secure the 2-0 lead. The Royals put together another great set on the attack hitting .300 with 12 kills. Queens was also successful from the service line posting four aces.

In the third set, Lees-McRae grabbed a 5-1 lead early as they were looking to generate a comeback. Again, Queens countered with a 6-1 rally to take a 7-6 lead. The Bobcats would not shy away this set as both squads saw six ties and three lead changes. Leading 23-22, Queens earned back-to-back points on a kill from
Jack Brinkman and a Bobcats attack error to grab the set and the match. Queens hit .257 with 14 kills in the third set while limiting Lees-McRae to a .161 mark with 13 kills and eight attack errors.

Jack Brinkman led the Royals attack with 18 kills on 33 attempts for a .424 hitting percentage. The double-digit kills mark the juniors 13
th this season, and second straight.
JP Payne and
Matthew Pilch would round out the Royals attack with six kills each.
Brandon Grabow would facilitate the Queens offense with 27 assists.
