Royals Drop a Pair to No. 20 Lincoln Memorial

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (20-16, 7-5 SAC) hosted the No. 20 Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters (27-7, 10-2 SAC) this afternoon, dropping both South Atlantic Conference games by scores of  7-4 and 9-1, respectively.

Game One: LMU 7 | Queens 4

Queens would be the first on the board when Kaylee DeJesus hit a double to record an RBI bringing Kasidi Staley across home plate to give the Royals a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Unfortunately, the Royals' lead would be short-lived as LMU scored once in the second inning and twice in the third to lead 3-1.

The Royals had an answer in the bottom of the fifth when third baseman Jordyn Thompson blasted a home run to cut into the Railsplitter lead, 3-2. However, the Railsplitters answered back in the top of the seventh scoring four more runs, one of which was a home run.

The Royals' final attempt to even the score fell short in the bottom of the seventh as Kayla Smith and Thompson were the only Royals able to score runs before LMU forced the third out ending the game.

Jordan Dunn pitched all seven innings striking out six while allowing seven runs off 13 hits. Dunn's loss moves her record to11-8. LMU's Emma Frost took the victory improving her record to 15-3.

Game Two: LMU 9 | Queens 1

LMU opened up the scoring in game two with a pair of runs in the second inning. Kelsey Hoski of the Railsplitters then gave her team a 5-0 lead with a three-run homer in the top of the fourth.

An error in the bottom of the fourth would allow Jordan Hunt to reach home and score the Royals' lone run of the game before Emma Webb of LMU recorded another three-run homer for the Railsplitters to put them in front, 8-1. LMU then added to their score in the sixth capitalizing on an error by the Royals.

Kate Nelson took the loss in game two after one inning of play, making her 6-6 on the season. The Royals recorded seven strikeouts, with Haley Nelson leading the way with five.

Queens will be back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 29 at home taking on Wingate University. Game one of the doubleheader is set to begin at 2 p.m.
