CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team (9-11, 3-2 IVA) dropped a Friday frenzy with the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters (12-7, 3-0 IVA) by a final score of 3-0 inside Curry Arena. The Royals suffer their fourth consecutive loss and fall to 2-10 in the all-time series with the Railsplitters.
The evening started tightly contested and Lincoln Memorial held an 8-6 lead. The visiting Railsplitters would use a 5-1 run followed by a 6-3 push to open their first set lead to 19-10. Lincoln Memorial would halt any comeback attempts and took the opener 25-16 behind a .409 hitting percentage and 14 kills. The Royals would struggle to find a rhythm early hitting .133 with 10 kills, six attack errors, and three service errors.
The second set started differently for the Royals taking a 5-2 lead and capitalizing on the Railsplitters errors. As both teams exchanged points, the Royals managed to open their lead up to six at 19-13 as they looked to even the score. Lincoln Memorial would not back down going on a 4-0 run and closing the deficit to 19-17 forcing a Royals timeout. Queens would keep their lead and get to set point at 24-20 before Lincoln Memorial went on a 6-1 run and stormed from behind to secure the set 27-25. In the second, both teams combined for 11 attacking errors and 11 service errors. The Royals would hit a team-best .321 with 13 kills.
Looking to start a comeback, Queens came out firing in the third set and gained an early 8-6 lead. The set was tight the entire way as there were eight total ties and six lead changes. Trailing 9-7, the Railsplitters managed to flip the set over with a 7-2 run and gain a 14-11 lead which they never gave up. Both offenses would struggle again as there were 15 combined attack errors and eight service errors.
Jack Brinkman would lead the Royals with seven kills.
JP Payne was very efficient on the attack recording five kills on 10 attempts while
Stirling Sims added six kills on 15 attempts. On defense,
Guillermo Jordan would lead the Royals with eight digs.
The Royals will turnaround and welcome Tusculum University to Curry Arena tomorrow, March 26 for a 2:00 p.m. start. Prior to the match, Queens will honor their senior class as it will be the final regular season match inside Curry Arena this season.
