Royals Set Program Record in Goals Defeating Mars Hill at Home

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 15th- ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team (5-2, 2-1) defeated Mars Hill University (4-5, 0-4) this evening at Dickson Field by a score of 26-5. The 26 goals scored by the Royals set a new single-game program record.
 
Kealan Pilon led the Royals scoring seven goals to match the program's single-game record. He also tallied one assist to finish with eight points. Tyler Ewen wasn't far behind totaling two goals and five assists for seven points. Austin Leonard recorded three goals and two assists for five points while Adam Barry added three goals.
 
Three Royals saw time in goal as William Powley recorded today's win after seeing 30 minutes of action. Wesley Wheat totaled five saves and Jayson Alexander recorded two saves.
 
Queens was dominant from beginning to end, outshooting the Lions 67-26. The Royals put 46 of those shots on goal compared to Mars Hill's 12 shots on goal.
 
Queens also won the battle at the faceoff winning 29-of-35 with Alex Alonso (14-18), Jacob Martin (8-10), and Jonathan Stansel (7-7) each battling for possession. Additionally, Martin led the Royals with eight ground balls as Queens totaled 50 to Mars Hill's 22.
 
The Royals took control of today's game early scoring six unanswered goals to start the game. They closed the opening quarter with a 10-2 lead over the Lions. Scoring nine goals in a row spanning across the first and second quarter, Queens eventually went into the halftime break on top,18-3.
 
Eli Morin scored Queens' 25th goal, which set a new program record, on an assist from Jack Riddle in the fourth quarter with 9:07 on the clock. Riddle then scored the Royals' final goal of the day at 6:11 on an assist from Morin.
 
The Royals will travel to face No. 14 Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, Mar. 26 for their next competition. The South Atlantic Conference game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
