NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis program opened the new season with a comeback 4-3 victory over Newberry College on Saturday afternoon inside the Oakland Tennis Center. Queens gets their first victory and conference win on the new season while Newberry falls to 4-1 on the spring season and 0-1 in league play.
 
The Royals kicked off the day sweeping the doubles action as Jill Morse and Marie Bertran De Balanda took down Spike/Chamoun in No. 1 doubles 6-4. Viktorija Veselinova and Caity Klaassen dropped Gonzalez/Griffiths in No. 2 doubles 6-4. In No. 3 doubles, Hanna Axelsson and Amelie Allard won 6-4.
 
After securing the doubles point, the Royals would fall in No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles as the Wolves took a daunting 3-1 lead with the final three courts remaining. Queens battled on the first three courts, specifically Veselinova on No. 2 and Axelsson on No. 3 as they both took their opponents into the third set.
 
In No. 4 singles, Marie Bertran De Balanda cruised by Griffiths 6-4, 6-1 and Katya Khramtcova dominated No. 6 singles beating Singh 6-1, 6-1. In No. 5 singles, Caity Klaassen dropped the first set to Spice, but rallied in the second and third sets, 6-3 and 6-4, respectively to give the Royals the comeback win.
