CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball team improved their record to 4-4 on the season after defeating the University of Charleston Eagles, 3-1, and Lees-McRae College, 5-3, at the Tuck in the Queens Round Robin.

Game One: Queens 3 University of Charleston 1

Following a scoreless first two innings of play, the Royals came to life in the bottom of the third when
Haley Nelson hit her third home run of the season with two runners on base.
Kasidi Staley and Kalyee DeJesus each scored runs on the play. Â

The Golden Eagles would score their only run in the top of the fourth.
Â
Jordan Dunn recorded her first win of the season after pitching all seven innings and striking out seven batters.

Game Two: Queens 5 Lees-McRae 3
Â
Trailing 1-0 after the Bobcats scored, the Royals evened the score in the bottom of the third when Staley recorded an RBI grounding out to second base.
Kayla Smith recorded the unearned run after getting hit by a pitch to get on base.
Â
The Bobcats answered right back in the top of the fourth scoring another run when Jannon Glaspie hit a single up the middle to bring Emma Jackson across home plate.

However, their lead would be short-lived as Nelson stepped to the plate and recorded her second home run of the day down the left-field line.
Jordyn Thompson then singled to center field to record her first RBI of the day bringing home
Jordan Hunt. With runners on second and third, Smith stepped up to bat, flying out to right field to bring
Adriana Wilson across the plate. Thompson then scored the final run of the inning on the next play to give Queens a 5-2 lead.

Lees-McRae was able to get one more run on the board in the sixth before the game ended.

Kristen McPherson,
Kate Hunter, and
Jordan Dunn saw action in the pitcher's circle, with Hunter taking the win improving her record 2-0 on the season.
Queens is back in action tomorrow for day two of the Queens Round Robin taking on the University of Charleston at 12:30 p.m. and Lees-McRae College at 3:00 p.m.
