NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis program kicked off the 2022 season with a 7-0 sweep over the Newberry Wolves on Saturday afternoon inside the Oakland Tennis Center. The opening day victory over the Wolves also gave Queens their first South Atlantic Conference victory on the young season. Queens improves to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play while Newberry drops to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in league action.
 
The Royals kicked off the afternoon sweeping doubles play. Preseason First Team All-Conference pairing Edoardo Bottino and Edoardo Cecere took down Friedland/Schomburg, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles action. On the No. 2 court, Win Steveker and Jan Malmon defeated Bivol/Blavignat 6-2. Rounding out the Royals doubles action was Yoan Roussinov and Euan Lynes taking down Anastopoulo/Zancheta, 7-6.
 
With the early 1-0 advantage after taking two of the three doubles matches, the Royals turned to singles play and continued their dominance. Edoardo Bottino handled the No. 1 court winning 6-4, 6-2 and Edoardo Cecere downed Schomburg in No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2. On the No. 3 court, Laurenz Blickwede won 6-3, 6-1 and Jan Malmon handled business 6-3, 6-2 on the No. 5 court. Win Steveker and Yoan Roussinov would each pick up defeats in their singles play as well.
