Women's Volleyball Pushes North Alabama to Four

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Queens was back in action Sunday evening, heading further south to take on North Alabama. The team managed a nice comeback in the third set, but ultimately fell in four (25-17, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20).

Both teams started hot out the gate, as they'd go point for point with UNA holding a slight 10-9 advantage in the first set. A pair of early kills by Kaylin Dowling helped keep the set close. Two points later, a kill by Anna Law sparked a three-point run that put Queens ahead, 12-11. North Alabama responded with a run of their own which propelled them to take the first set, 25-17.

The second set saw contributions from numerous players, as six different players registered a kill. Alleigh Johnson led the offensive attack with two kills and two aces in that set alone, but her efforts would not be enough as the Lions would pull away and gain a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

After falling into a 12-7 deficit in the third set, Queens managed to put their foot down and start a nice comeback. A kill by Kayla McDuffie followed by an ace by Dowling helped spark a run that cut the deficit to two. After a short pushback, Abbey Criser took over on offense with kills on three consecutive points, bringing the Royals within one. The momentum would continue to sway in Queens' favor as a kill and another pair of aces by Johnson, combined with a couple kills by Anna Law put the Royals in the driver's seat with a 21-17 lead.

North Alabama attempted to fight back, but Queens would hold on and take the set, capped off by a kill by McDuffie.

Johnson and McDuffie each managed a pair of kills early in the fourth set to put Queens ahead 5-4. The back-and-forth nature of the match would continue, with Queens continuing to hold the advantage, 10-9. North Alabama began to pull away but a trio of well-placed balls by Ellis Sargent helped keep the Royals in the match. Queens fought hard but were ultimately bested, 25-20.
