GAFFNEY, S.C. – Junior guard
Kalaya Hall had an impressive scoring night again for the Royals, recording 43 points to set a new program single-game record again this evening as the Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (6-10, 5-10 SAC) fell to Limestone University (9-5, 6-5 SAC) on Wednesday evening by a score of 98-79.
Hall was 11-of-25 from the floor on the night connecting on 5-of-9 from the three and 16-of-18 from the charity stripe. Her 43 points break the previous record of 41 points that she set on Jan. 12, 2022.
In addition,
Kristy Hamze finished with 21 points and five steals while
Finley Lefevers chipped in 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Taylor Stevens dished out six dimes before exiting the game due to an apparent injury.
Following some back and forth play in the opening quarter, the game sat tied 9-9 with 2:34 to play. The Saints then outscored Queens 10-3 in the final minutes to take a 19-12 lead into the second.
The scoring in the second period would come slow for the Royals, as the Saints took advantage building as much as a 19-point lead. A 9-0 run sparked by an and-one from Hall and capped by a triple from the junior soon helped the Royals pull within 10, 40-30, with 2:38 on the clock. A fastbreak lay-in from Hamze would be the final bucket of the half giving the game a 43-34 score at the break. Queens would outscore the Saints in the last four minutes of play 13-3, going into halftime trailing 43-34.
Hall went to work out of the break scoring 23 of the Royals' 30 points in the third quarter to cut the deficit to just four, 68-64, heading into the game's final period.
An early foul in the fourth sent Hamze to the line where she knocked down a pair bringing the Royals within a bucket of Limestone. Unfortunately, that's as close as Queens would get to regaining control of the game as the Saints closed stringing together a number of short runs to build a 19-point lead by the end of regulation.
Kargo led the Saints with 45 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Kalisha Hill and Reagan McCray both chipped in 10 points apiece.
The Royals will have the rest of the week off before jumping back into action on Monday, Jan. 31 when they host Lenior-Rhyne for a makeup game. The Monday night game was rescheduled earlier in the month due to COVID-19 protocols.
