HARROGATE, TENN. - The No. 11/13 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (13-3, 9-3 SAC) suffered a tough loss, 83-74 at No. 14/17 Lincoln Memorial University (14-2, 11-2 SAC) inside B. Frank "Tex" Turner Arena on Saturday afternoon. The loss snaps the Royals six-game winning streak, as they drop their third conference game of the season and fall a game back in the conference race at the top.
The Railsplitters would start the game outscoring the Royals 10-5 in the first four minutes before the visiting Royals would go on a 6-0 run to take an 11-10 lead with 15:24 to play. The Railsplitters would quickly respond with a 13-0 run to take a 23-11 lead with 11:51 remaining in the first half. The first half of runs would continue as the Royals would catch fire on offense, going on a 9-0 run to cut the Railsplitters deficit to 23-20 with 7:49 to play in the first half.
The game would remain a back-and-forth affair for the remainder of the first half. With 2:22 to play, the Railsplitters led 35-27 before Queens went on a 5-0 run to end the half, as Lincoln Memorial took a 35-32 lead into the break.
The Royals would tie the game, 39-39, with 17:24 to play before the Railsplitters retook the lead, 41-39.  Lincoln Memorial would never trail the rest of the way as they staved off the Royals attempts to regain the lead. The Royals would inch closer and cut the Railsplitters lead to 52-48 on a Kalib Matthews three-pointer. Lincoln Memorial would then go on an 11-4 run to lead 63-52 with 10:14 to play. They would keep the deficit at around double-digits the rest of the way and drop the Royals on their home court, a venue they are perfect in this season.
Kenny Dye led the Royals in scoring on the night with 21 points and he also was active on the boards corralling a season-high seven rebounds.
Quan McCluney was productive for the Royals, notching 16 points and a team-leading four assists.
Jamari Smith reached double figures for the 14
th time this season as the sophomore chipped in 13 points for the Royals, while corralling a team-high eight rebounds.
The Royals were physical on the boards, as they brought down 42 rebounds on the night, including 10 offensive rebounds which they converted into nine second-chance points. The Royals were stingy in the paint, as they rejected six Railsplitters shots.
Queens is set return to action next Wednesday, as they travel to Tusculum University for a key South Atlantic Conference redemption matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm. Be sure to follow the Royals men's basketball program onÂ
