SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team (2-6, 1-4) fell 4-2 on the road at No. 1 Shippensburg, University (6-0) this afternoon.
The Raiders scored two goals in the opening quarter and one in the second to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break. They outshot the Royals 15-0 in the half.
In the second, Queens held the Raiders scoreless in the third quarter despite them adding seven more shots to their total.
Avian Thompson recorded five saves in the period.
In the fourth, Queens was able to cut the lead to one with back-to-back goals from
Cassie McKenzie and
Gabe Lechner.
Victoria Tredinnick and
Molly Walter recorded assists on the plays.
The one-point margin was as close as Queens would get as time proved to be on the Raiders' side. A foul at the end of regulation gave Shippensburg a final corner where they scored their final goal of the day to give the game a 4-2 score.
The Raiders finished the game with 29 shots, putting 19 on goal while Queens totaled three shots, all of which were on goal. Both Thompson and
Marlee Geppert completed the game with seven saves each after splitting time in the cage.
Queens will be on the road at Newberry on Wednesday, September 29. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
