HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team now sits 2-2 on the year and 1-1 in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas play after defeating Coker 3-1 this afternoon on the road. The win is the first league win of the season and avenges the conference championship final loss for the Royals during the 2020 spring season.

Gabe Lechner led the way with two goals in the win while
Molly Walter added the third. Lechner scored the Royals' first goal of the game in just the second minute of action. Walter and Lechner then added two more points to the board for Queens in the second quarter with goals in the 26
th and 28
th minutes, respectively.

The Royals then held the Cobras to just one goal scored in the third to secure their first conference win of the season. Coker's goal would come from Britt Kabo in the 37
th minute.

Queens outshot the Cobras, 21-16, putting 13 shots on goal compared to Coker's five shots on goal. The Royals also won the battle for penalty corners, 9-6.

Avian Thompson recorded today's win in goal after seeing 30 minutes of action and totaling two saves.
Marlee Geppert also recorded two saves in 30 minutes of play.

Kelsey Gibbons of Coker recorded 10 saves on the day.

Queens will host Limestone on Wednesday, September 15 in their home opener at Bessant Field. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
