MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team opened South Atlantic Conference Carolinas play this afternoon at the University of Mount Olive (1-2, 1-0) falling 3-1 to the Trojans. With the loss, Queens' record now sits at 1-2 on the year and 0-1 in league play.

The Royals edged Mount Olive in shots, 18-17, this afternoon as both teams put 11 shots on goal. In goal,
Marlee Geppert and
Avian Thompson split time in the cage for Queens to combine for seven saves. Mount Olive's Victoria Lane took the win after totaling 10 saves.

After Queens'
Karlee Alt scored the first goal of the game in the sixth minute of action to give the Royals a 1-0 lead, Mount Olive responded with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead in the opening quarter. A scoreless second period followed despite Queens and Mount Olive combining for 10 shots, seven of which came from the Royals.

At the start of the third, Mount Olive's Annefleur Moerkerken scored her second goal of the day, which would also be the final of the game, to give the Trojans a 3-1 lead in the 32
nd.

Maya Forbes and
Gabe Lechner each recorded four shots in the loss as Forbes put three shots on goal and Lechner put two on goal. Alt and
Molly Walter each record two shots on goal as well.
