CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte Assistant Athletic Director for Communications
Phylicia Short announced the addition of
Austin Slough to her staff as the Assistant Director for Athletic Communications. Slough comes to Queens after most recently holding the position of Media Relations Intern with Villanova Athletics in Villanova, Pennsylvania.
"I am very excited to add Austin to my staff. We are very fortunate as a department to have someone with his skillset join our team and help move us forward in our pursuit to be innovative in our ever-evolving industry," Short commented.
During the internship, Slough assisted wherever it was needed as the COVID-19 pandemic forced Villanova Athletics to play all 22 sports in the spring season. He served as a contact for baseball, field hockey, and soccer during his time in the city of brotherly love. Slough was responsible for heading multiple game day events, including the official stats, PA announcements, social media, and post-game recaps for multiple sports. Additionally, he was able to assist in managing the 2020 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championships at Villanova University.
"I would like to thank
Phylicia Short and
Mike Glennon for giving me this opportunity to work with such a special department," Slough stated. "The administrators, coaches, and athletes are fantastic and very successful in what they do. I am very excited to get to work and help Queens University build upon an incredible foundation."
Prior to Villanova, Slough spent a year at Virginia Commonwealth University working as a graduate assistant in their athletic communications office. While at VCU, Slough served as the primary contact for men's and women's tennis while also assisting with the soccer and basketball programs.
A native of Glen Allen, Va., Slough earned his bachelor's degree in communication studies with a minor in leadership from Christopher Newport University in 2019. After graduation, Slough went on to receive his master's degree from the VCU Center for Sport Leadership in 2020.
