CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team defeated the Tusculum University Pioneers, 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the South Atlantic Conference Championship this evening at Dickson Field.
The Royals' first goal of the night came at the 20
th minute from
Taylor Ward, who scored her first goal of the season.
Mia Manuel was awarded the assist. The Royals then kept their slight lead over the Pioneers heading into intermission.
Sophomore
Nia Gaither would score the second goal for Queens, with
Hilda Svensson assisting across the middle to add to the lead. Queens held the 2-0 advantage over Tusculum until the Pioneers got on the board with Brianna Garcia scoring unassisted, cutting into the margin to one, 2-1.
Freshman forward
Emily Beach then recorded the insurance goal for the Royals on an assist from
Alyssa Edwards. The goal was Beach's first of her collegiate career.
Queens outshot Tusculum, 15-6, putting seven shots on goal. Additionally, Queens would have six corner kicks to the Pioneers' zero.
Queens will be back in action at home Thursday, April 8 to take on the Limestone University Saints in the South Atlantic Conference Championship in the semifinals round. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
